Woodduck Reloaded

We have given the Woodduck a brand new look! New (and bigger) cockpit, removal of the command pod, brand new deck, repair of dry rot (only on the top deck of the boat, nothing below the waterline, thank goodness), and repair of a leak in the stern caused by a faulty deck plate. Our intention when we arrived two months ago was simply to install the new cockpit which we had built last July. Simple? Not! The project began with demolition of the old cockpit and command pod. With the purchase our new sawzall....

the demolition project was done in a matter of minutes. It's a sad joke to think that it took us months to build that cockpit and command pod and now here it sits looking like a pile of rubbish. Fortunately, this material is all good plywood and these "new" materials can be used to build the furniture for the new cockpit. We try never to just throw something away. What can it be used for now? Recycle, recycle, recyle!

With Drew's help, we could have never completed as much work as we did in the 2 1/2 months time we had. Finally, we finished up with all of the work on the boat or rather stopped working and took the list of "things to do" with us.... and set sail for Belize on April 24.... !!

Here are some pictures of the work being done on the boat. Will follow soon with pictures of us "playing" in Belize!

Project #3... Jake purchased the aluminum tubing and cut it down to size to make the new shade structure... and then we spent 2 days at the local welding shop getting the welding done.... the last picture here is of the shade structure installed... and the solar panel is mounted on top... a week after this picture was taken, we purchased new shade material from the local sailmaker.
