06/01/2005 - More pictures from Bahia del Sol, El Salvador

Hello from the land of the plenty. We're back for a 3-month sabattical from our sabattical. Being back in the states feels good, but we are getting very excited about the next leg of our journey. We will set sail again in October.

In the meantime, we have more pictures from El Salvador. The month of May felt like a whirl wind of activity. We were graciously invited to a local wedding. (Santos and Maddie). We endured a hurricane. On May 18th, Hurricane Adrian touched down on land a mere 45 miles north of us. To prepare for this we moved our boat into the mangroves, secured everything that could possibly fly off and waited. I would have to say that waiting was the hardest part. The waiting was especialy difficult when we overheard other cruisers on the VHF who feared the worst and actually started to talk about forming a triage center, just in case. I mean ..... what the f---.!!!!! I finally had to turn off the VHF radio. In short the winds were not that strong. Luckily, no one in the immediate area was hurt.

After the excitement of the hurricane passed, we then had to buckle down and take care of some routine work. We beached the boat so we could paint the bottom. This we did by waking up way too early to re-anchor on a sand bar. But with the help of some friends it went very fast. So enjoy these pics. captain jake

A pod of Spinner Dolphins in the Bay of Tehuantapec on our way to El Salvador from Mexico. There were about 100 in the pod

Some artwork to pass the time.

Our friend Dana at the Puntilla watching the boats cross the bar.

The bar entrance is marked by breaking waves--some boats crossing the bar.

This guy got crushed from the stern

Some real cute local girls

Santo's artwork

We called him short shoes because his shoes were half the size
of his feet. He did't have much to say ........ about anything

Smokey....aka smoked duck (on the radio)

This is what's nice about a catamaran. You can haul out almost anywhere. We simply waited for low tide and dropped anchor on a sandbar and the job of painting the bottom commenced!
