11/05/2004 - Cabo San Lucas here we come!
We are done with the paperwork here in Ensenada. They call it the paperwork dance--or cha cha. Two steps forwards, two steps back, a lot of smiling and saying please and oh yeah, paying fees too. We plan to leave Ensenada tomorrow (Saturday) morning. It will be approximately 7 days before we reach Cabo San Lucas and our next opportunity to access the internet and make phone calls. Here is a breakdown of mileage and safe places to anchor and rest between Ensenada and Cabo. We have a total of 712 miles to cover so when I say we should get there in 7 days that is under optimal conditions. It might take as long as two weeks. The bad thing is that we will only have radio and pay phones for our contact during that time. The good thing is that we aren’t spending any money while we are out sailing. Wish us luck and we’ll talk to you soon from Cabo.--cathy

Hello Cathy and Jake Hows sailing? You half way to Cabo yet? Will you be going through the Panama canal or south to South America? Costa Rica? Where in the world are you ? I always wanted to say that when it really meant it. Smile here. Ok. Hasta la vista ! Edward
Ahoy Mateys! What's up? How exciting, I finally got to your website, the map was a great idea , me and Mom have been wanting just that, she keeps getting her map of New Mexico out to try and find you. She still gets confused about some things. Other wise she is doing great.I got my laptop and dsl at Moms, our shop and at home. It is an education that is for sure. Tell us all about your trip, the whole family is waiting to hear. I bet it is really beautiful out there. I am checking on my rci for the end of December, Bruce definitely wants to go to Mexico. Where do you think you will be then ? Safe Sailing ! Hey,we would like to know how your locator works in the event of an "abandon ship" so we could know our part in your emergency plan as far as how to locate two little bobbers out in the big blue. Know what I mean? We love you and worry about you too.
Hi Jake and Cathy. I talked to your Mom and Dad this morning and they told me about your webpage. I am totally amazed at what the two of you have accomplished in the building of the WOODDUCK. It blows my mind!!. Hope nothing but the best for the two of you and smooth sailing. I was hoping to get to visit your mom and dad and Aunt Lena in Ardmore this Thanksgiving, but can't get off from work. Take care and God Bless. John
Jake and Cathy --
Drew, Bea, and Greg here from Pier 39 finally able to check up on yo' progress. Congrats on getting to Cabo!!
Bea says: tell them that uh... wow... oh my goodness, let's put this on pause, I thought about them today because we had our crab feast and I'm wondering what kind of feasts and.. what kind of experiences they're having, uh... let's see what else, ... what did you write?... no, you're writing exactly what I'm writing, no don't, I just drank two glasses of wine and I ... drew! greg, help me!
Greg: no don't worry, you're safe
Bea: warm wishes and big hugs! what are you writing... read it! >> pause <<
Drew: Ok folks, you survived the tempest (we heard about it from Drew (the other drew) and Mike, 40+ kts and bare poles, did you manage to take pictures? Cathy, I feel your pain, I assume those nice 'newman's own' ginger cookies didn't help much, I hope that you've found your sea legs.
ok, we're drunk + stoned and such, but we love you! and you're on the way.
Bea: can I say something? I heard that restaurantsx have a fat content of 60%, that's why it tastes so good. (I don't think that doesn't have much to do with you, we're watching "supersize me!")
Drew: Write when you can, check your rigging and make sure you have enough jerky and peanut butter. we wish we were with you! You are living the dream.
